Misima: The Enthralling Documentary Comes to Life

Join us on a journey to the remote island of Misima, where beauty, mystery and culture await.

Bryan Pitcher Films is proud to announce its latest project, 'Misima', a feature documentary that takes viewers to the remote island of Misima in Papua New Guinea. As the producer, director, and cinematographer of the film, Bryan has been in production since 2015 and has received support from Cannon USA, who sponsored the film and provided digital cinema cameras and lenses.

Capturing the beauty and spirit of Misima Island — Bryan Pitcher films on a mountain side where village men clear a new garden for planting of yams.

Project advisor Denise Zmekhol recommended the submission of the documentary project Misima to the ITVS/PBS co-producing program for funding and television distribution. Despite not yet being selected, Misima has been positively reviewed three times by ITVS television staff. Each time, the film has received praise for its "beautiful glimpse into an underserved and under exposed culture", its "visually stunning cinematic footage", and its main character Diuma, who has been described as "a soft-spoken character, but her energy as a leader is infectious." The reviewers have encouraged the filmmakers to continue their work and consider reapplying as the project develops further.

Bryan will be returning to Misima Island in 2024 to complete filming, with the aim of completing the project by Spring 2025. Stay tuned for updates and a sneak peak into this exciting project, including a teaser trailer of the film.
